I would have no qualms recommending this restaurant to anyone. The main was the Roe Deer Shoulder special for two - absolutely stunning!! more, British, Grill, Gastropub, Gluten Free Options. It is lovely to hear such positive comments and there is nothing nicer than a glass of wine outside so we are delighted that the sun shone on the day...More, What can we say? The team prepare delicious food with a focus on sustainability, including local venison, Berkshire pork and the spectacular dry aged Hereford beef rump, served as a sharing platter, which we eventually settled on.

If I had any criticism at all about Woodsman, I felt some of the drinks ( like £7 for a single liqueur ) and the average sweet at £9.50 was excessive, but apart from that, it was a most enjoyable evening out.More.

The restaurant is open for lunch with an extensive bar and garden(summer) menu available every day. My wife wanted a Nice Sunday lunch before another Lockdown.

You will be served nicely cooked haddock, meat pies and cullen skink. General Manager, Rachael, recommended a stunning bottle of Sicilian Passo DiLuna Rosso – a delicious, spicy mix of Nero D’Avola and Shiraz with tons of red cherry and a touch of vanilla, the perfect accompaniment to the perfectly cooked beef rump, served with excellent roast potatoes, a sublime creamed spinach dish and Yorkshire puddings stuffed with an unctuous slow-cooked beef mixture, which was a delicious surprise. Perfection. Had not had Roe Deer before but I'm now a deer convert plus the olive oil mash and aubergine were amazing sides. The whole of the back of the restaurant is opened up to the pretty garden in good weather, meaning it’s a lovely, light and airy atmosphere on a warm day.

The menu is a cleverly curated, small-but-perfectly-formed choice of five starters, five mains and four desserts, and even though it’s compact, it’s still tough to choose. The venue itself is comfortably relaxing and even with the additional restrictions due to government guidelines on social distancing and restricting as many walk crossways as possible this did not spoil the experience. We don't ever want anyone to leave The Woodsman feeling hungry and Sundays are for feeling fit to burst!

My starter, a creamy, silky burrata, served in a delicious, chilled tomato water with garden herbs, fresh tomatoes and toasted focaccia was sublime: delicate, fresh and tasty, and the crispy coated venison Scotch eggs with cauliflower cheese croquettes were savoury, moreish heaven, and of course perfectly runny in the middle. As a result of government guidelines we have had to pop the screens on as you say but we couldn't hide the Head Chef in the back of the kitchen because the wood fire is what makes us! British cuisine is to guests' taste at this restaurant. The restaurant also give diners their table for the whole night, and it was lovely to really take our time, chat, sip delicious pre-dinner G&Ts, and mull over our menu choices.
