Capella A and B orbit each other approximately every 100 days at a distance of around 62,000 miles (100,000 km). Capella is the brightest star in the sky that is the same spectral class and colour as the Sun. A prominent object in the northern winter sky, it is circumpolar to observers north of 44°N. Capella is much larger and more luminous than the Sun, and also much more distant, at 42.2 light years, compared to the Sun’s 8 light-minutes.
