It's really good to open your eyes and see the world for yourself. Although after reading up on it I totally agree with the author's conclusion that Mary was guilty. Her mom is a drug addict who is never home and never has time for her kids. She even goes up there to sing with him falling more for him then before she actually met him.

She was determined to let everybody listen to her beautiful voice on her, was not letting nobody getting in the way of that not even her boyfriend. Author’s use of language is bold. Like, this covers the gamut, y'all: parental death; step-drama; terminal illness of BFF; the other BFF struggling with nonacceptance from parental units; intense (evil) bullying; the whole virtual-vs-reality romance thing ... it's all here. She was ashamed of who she was and where she was living that she lied at told him that she lived where her friend lived because they had a nice little house. That was one of the many things that made the book so interesting.

As I was leaving the library, this YA novel in verse immediately caught my eye. She loses people along the way to find herself in the world she’s always dreamed of. For some reason this one just didn't grab me, even though it is based loosely around real events.

Bullied, overweight girl falls in love with the cute, popular boy. I think it's a very good book. That even the people that look like there life is perfect its not. she got a record deal , her brother got out of jail and her sisters and brother got to come back home and on top of that they got to move to a better neighbor hood and home(: When most teens are busy thinking about boys and make-up, Elite is busy trying to raise her brothers and sisters. It feels kinda weird to live in Australia as a woman now and think about life of women a century ago right here, as described in this book.

I had never heard of this book before, but it was featured in my library and I saw that it was written in a mixture of verse, emails and text messages and so I was intrigued. By describing the harsh backgrounds that some people had to grow up with and how they were able to escape it to become successful is something that I found truly inspir. Mica is my favorite! She just loses it, and cries all that she has inside of her! Throughout this story, I was like: are there really boys out there who care about girls this much? From a well-to-do family, Emmie is frustrated by the limitations placed on her until Bertha, a young, world-wise German girl, comes to work for Emmie's mother. The problem is salved when she does not know anything about her mom and she goes and visits her brothers and sisters and they all show her there good grades and they tell her that her mom visited them too and she came out of a room looking all nice and by the first time not drinking or doing drugs she looked great. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. He is just so adorable. Her mother was a crack adict so, she was responible for taking care of her two younder brothers and two younger sisters who were twins. Gradually, despite their vast differences, Emmie and Bertha become friends until a terrible tragedy occurs leaving the little township of Towitt reeling. Her dad passed away and she gets bullied.

. The main character was a beautiful youn girl who had a voice like keisha cole. And I think the verse format really brings something to it - makes you look at it differently, closer maybe, than if you were reading a prose version of the same.

She got her mother in a rehab and got her brothers and sister out of foster and they lived happily. I really enjoyed this story, even though I already knew the outcome - ie. She believes that the best place for her younger siblings to be is with her, together. I'll make this short, because I don't have too much time these days: “Why should we remain innocent of what lurks in the shadows? Elite has been watching over her brothers and sisters since her mom became a druggie.No one really knows about her having to take care over her brothers and sisters like if she was there own mother. But anyways, there about are plenty, you just got to be wise about who's who and stop assuming you know it all. In the choosing of a book i picked this one because of the black girl on the cover( sadly :(). This is a great young adult book that some kids can relate to and it's just a great story to read and experience. So Elite and her mom both go home together and they live together because they love each other again.

Very good and gripping! Some parts authentic (felt like I was back in high school)-other parts a little too cool to be true. A Girl Like Me is about Emmie, a 16-year-old girl living on a farm in an isolated community near Adelaide in 1901.

A quick read. We have the main protagonist Shay who is a big girl as you can see on the cover of the book. Some of my likes on this book is that the girl was going through a hard time but she didn't give up. I love this author and her many series of these books. She's funny and knowing and wild, and she distracts Emmie from the monotony of farm life in their tiny, isolated community. However, she has to try and balance this with being an ordinary teen in high school. After that I was totally hooked - there's nothing more morbidly fascinating than a good grisly murder mystery, more so when it's based on real events. She was a delightful narrator and I loved reading her efforts at writing a romance novel ;) The historical detail and setting were just gorgeous as well, you could really *see* the small town of Towitta and the harsh South Australian summer. The book was not only targeted towards young adults but it can also relate to many people of different ages. She had to stick her head up and keep going. Then, a German girl from a poor but hardworking family, Bertha, is hired by her parents to help at the farm. Shout out to all of yall!

The storyline just seemed to plod along without really going anywhere.

And, was very grown and mature for being only 17. I really love this book. But it was still such a lovely read. Everything seems to be going fine until she wins a contest by signing and slowly falls in love with teen r&b artist Haneef. This is a great book i would recommend every one read it! A quick read. This is a great book because it shows that life is full of possibilities and that even though there are hard time they can turn out with a great outcome. I really enjoyed this story, even though I already knew the outcome - ie. This book was realistic fiction. ive read plenty of young adult books , but this one is good but could have been better and deep . She begins to go from rags to riches but it won’t be easy. But this girl on the cover Elite has a lot of struggles in her life with her family, and annoying boyfriend! Sometimes we have to step on people when we are really determined too get some where in life.

I like this book because it can in real life, you can go through the situation. I choose to read this book because by the title it sounded like a good book and i read the 1st page and i read the back of it and by what i read it was a interesting book i read this book very fast and I read it really fast because it went really fast and it was a very good book of all of them that I have read. Hard to put down! It is like a lovely mashup of Eleanor & Park with The Fault in our Stars with a focus on social media connection that gives it a twist and breath of its own. She begins to go from rags to riches bu. Her mother is on crack and hrt father is not around.she wins a radio contests and gets to meet haneef. This reminds me of a book that was about high school parties and the drama that was in them. A thoughtful fictionalisation of a real event that took place over 100 years ago in South Australia.

She happens to fall in love with a boy at school who is popular and is nick named a prince or something by the entire student body. It deserves 5 stars. Her little brother was starting to turn to the streets and all this was going on while she was falling for a pop singer. fans of verse novels AND middle grade fic. It shows you the ups and downs about dating a superstar . She was ashamed of who she was and where she was living that she lied at told him that she lived where her friend lived b. Elite raises her younger brother and her younger twin sisters mostly by herself while dealing with work and school. Im reading "A Girl Like Me" by Ni-Ni Simone. Highly recommend it :), Such an amazing book! We’d love your help. IRB#7 A Girl Like Me is about a seventeen year old girl named Elite who has taken on the role of being a mother to her four siblings because her mother is in love with the pipe. Also the online love interest feels like it will get girls to follow after an online predator. A few unfinished/unresolved issues with characters, but perhaps they need not be. This is definitely not a seat gripping mystery and a little bland for my liking, but an OK read none-the-less. [Bertha was murdered! she ends up living eith her bestfriend. REALLY good.

The book seemed like a hood version of cinderella .
